Over the next few weeks your child’s classroom teacher will be talking with your child about our new Standard Response Protocol (SRP). Students in grades 3 - 5 will be watching our district’s new safety video and reviewing the Standard Response Protocol (SRP). SRP is a simple, east-to-understand plan that provides 5 clear actions for all of us to take in an emergency. It’s used by districts across the country and was developed by educators, emergency responders and safety experts based on best practices.

After viewing the video (grades 3 - 5), students will have the opportunity to discuss our protocols with their teacher and share their thoughts and ideas around school safety.

Students in grades k - 2 will also engage in age-appropriate discussions with their classroom teachers.

In addition, all students will be taking part in safety drills. By state statute we are required to do 5 fire drills, 5 lockdown drills and 1 severe weather drill each school year.

Throughout the year, we will be using the 5 SRP actions as we practice drills with our students and staff. We encourage you to learn more about the SRP so you can understand what to expect in an emergency situation, and engage in conversations about school safety with your child. Our schools are safe places for students and staff, and incidents requiring us to implement these types of measures are very unlikely. Yet, it is important for our students, staff and families to know we have plans in place to maximize safety, and that these plans are understood and practiced.

Calendars approved for next two years

The district will implement a new early start, early end calendar beginning in the 2025-2026 school year, while next year's calendar will maintain the status quo.
